[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] 22 photographs of African American life, incl. occupational and domestic scenes.


20 silver gelatin photographs, 7 x 9 in., documenting African American life on a settlement, photographer and location unknown. Several exterior views of the homes are included as well as interior views of men, women, and children performing household chores, from cleaning and hanging up the laundry to dry to making a meal for the family. Young children are also captured playing stickball and standing on railroad tracks.
